Final Reflection

1.) I only worked on the project here at school, so I could have done a lot more if I had taken it out of the classroom too.

2.) If I was to redo my project, I think I would decide on a design first, instead of making it up as I go along.

3.) I learned that I had no clue how long it took to model something; and I have a feeling that texturing isn't any easier.

4.) I really liked doing this project, because I could do whatever I wanted, and let me "creative genius" flow.

Reflection 5/6

I learned that I have no clue what a human head looks like. After trying for ~2 class periods to model the head in Mudbox, I finally found a video on modeling a head in gmax, and its easy....(that doesn't mean i'm good at it)

Weekly Goal 5/6

This week I plan on finishing the head and attaching it to the body. I'm not sure how long this will take so this is all I'm planning on doing.

Weekly reflection 5/2

I was able to attach the arms to the torso, and I started on the head so I did complete my goal. Next, I plan on finishing the head, and attaching it.

The torso posing with his half finished head.

Goal 4/30

I want to have the torso completed, and the arms attached. I would also like to start on the legs or the head.

Progress

I have decided that the creature I am making will have a human torso, but thats about as far as i've gotten in deciding the final creature. Have any ideas?

Proposal

By May 21st I want to have completed several things. The first thing I want to do is model a weapon so I can learn how to texture. Second, I want to have a complete textured 3D model of the creature/monster I decide on. Also I want to rig it so I can animate it, with probably just a walking/running animation. I will be making my very own model, probably a mix of two or more different animals. I want to do this because I enjoyed doing the 5 second animation project, and want to know about everything that goes into that.

By April 19th: Weapon modeled and textured, started modeling the creature.
By May 3rd: Have a complete 3D model, ready to start texturing.
By May 10th: Completed textures, start rigging.
By May 21st: Have a simple animation done.

Art Analysis

The artist made a 3D model of a Centaur, with a low poly count. The artist is most likely working on promoting a fantasy game. For me, the model creates a sense of excitement to see exactly why the model was made. It makes me want to find out how and where they are going to use it. This model was either a part of a game, or a piece of fan art. I'm not sure how this could contribute to the community, except through the videogame or whatever kind of 3D work they were doing. I am going to make some sort of creature/monster and rig it. This is the kind of model I want to make, one with a fantasy background. I think I am going to go with a more uncommon or a never before seen type of creature, maybe a mix of different animals like a Centaur.

I think I want to do model creation/texturing/rigging in Gmax. Depending on how fast it goes, I'll probably make more than one model.
